Data Management System for Ash Pond Closure Site

LG&E/Kentucky Utilities

Tetra Tech is performing construction activities that includes closure of an ash treatment basin at a coal combustion residual (CCR) landfill at Ghent Generating Station in Kentucky. Vibrating Wire Piezometers (VWPs) have been set up to monitor slope stability as the ash pond is being dewatered. Tetra Tech developed and hosts the data management system for storage and reporting of the VWP data.

The system features

  • Vibrating wire piezometer data uploaded automatically from 6 sensors.

  • Automatic download of hourly weather data from publicly available weather station data.

  • Custom report of piezometer data reviewed daily as an early warning system for potential slides and other risks.

  • A SQL Server database for secure storage of all data.

  • A notification system that emails and texts users about system events such as data uploads, upload errors, and criteria exceedances.

  • A website for uploading EDDs, downloading EDD templates, and downloading data.

This data management system is a customized version of Tetra Tech’s EnDAR system."
