Port of Long Beach, Waste Disposal Facility

Tetra Tech conducted baseline risk assessments for three sites that operated as oil and gas waste disposal facilities between 1951 and 1971. The risk assessments evaluated potential exposures to PCBs, volatile PAHs, chlorinated hydrocarbons, organochlorine pesticides SVOCs and metals from soil and groundwater contamination. The evaluation of the groundwater pathway found that none of the chemicals would migrate offsite into the harbor within 600 years. Predicted indoor air concentrations resulting from vapor intrusion were used to identify the need for and scope of remedial actions. The Tetra Tech risk assessment was commended by the California Department of Toxic Substances Control and the proposed remedial actions were adopted.
